Dr. Mia Cary and Louie the Cat

Dr. Mia Cary, a 1999 graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine (Go Gators!), is a leadership consultant, speaker, and workshop facilitator specializing in leadership, communication, strategy, teamwork, innovation, energy infusion, and special projects. Her purpose is to activate others to thrive.

She is the former Chief of Professional Development and Strategic Alliances for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and Chief Innovation officer of the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Pet Peace of Mind (PPOM) and is a past president of the American Association of Industry Veterinarians (AAIV). She also serves on the board of advisors for the Veterinary Entrepreneurship Academy (VEA).

Prior to her work with the AVMA, Dr. Cary held various education and leadership roles at the NAVC, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Novartis Animal Health. She resides in Greensboro, NC with her husband John, three bonus kids Dakota, Carson, and Grant, Lucy the dog, and cats Louie and Leo.

    Activating Wellbeing - Workshop Description
    During this engaging, interactive workshop participants will learn about the nine dimensions of wellbeing, why these dimensions are important, and how creating personal wellbeing goals can positively impact their lives. Workshop participants will be invited to individualize and activate these nine dimensions by creating their own wellbeing action plan, obtaining a wellbeing buddy, and customizing their own post-workshop next steps.

    Participants of the “Activating Wellbeing” workshop will
    -Gain an understanding of wellness versus wellbeing
    -Learn about the nine dimensions of wellbeing and how creating personal wellbeing goals can have a positive impact

  • Embracing Change - The Why and the How

    During this interactive workshop Dr. Cary will facilitate a discussion on why adapting to change must become routine. This will be approached on a personal and professional level and will segue into the how of adaptation including ways to embrace what’s yet to come instead of defaulting to fear of the unknown. A key part of adapting to change is recognizing how attitude and behaviors shape our experiences, and fortunately adaptability is a skill that can be learned and developed. This workshop is for anyone that wants to grow, or help others to grow, as a positive agent for change.

  • Prioritizing Prioritization

    Whether you are an individual contributor, manage a team, or run an organization - a critical element of effective leadership is effective prioritization. So why is it so hard and why do so many suffer from initiative overload? During this interactive workshop participants will gain an understanding of prioritization “whys” and then focus on the “how”- specifically how and when to say no to what. During the last portion of the workshop participants, while working in small groups, will be invited to apply at least one prioritization model to their current work environment.

    Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to
    -Articulate a minimum of four root causes of prioritization failure
    -Describe three reasons why effective prioritization is a critical skill for all leaders
    -Apply personal work scenarios to at least one prioritization model
